The health diagnosis that inspired our Heal candle

A powerful, original, scented candle recipe written in response to a devastating diagnosis captures these sisters’ hope for healing.
 

A little over three years ago our father was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. We’re a close family, we had just found a farm to all live on together in the countryside and then out of nowhere our Dad was given six weeks to live.

Common sense told us to give up the country dream, hunker down and survive. But, instead we listened to that gut instinct we all have instead and dared to hope for more. We bought the farm anyway, moved, and in doing so experienced the life-giving, transformative power of living connected to the seasons.

























































Our new embracing of seasonal living had inspired us to launch Great House Farm Stores, our luxury refillable candle company. As we started writing Original Scent Recipes, each to connect you with a season or season of life, we begun dreaming of a candle scent that could capture the resilient hope that had sustained us throughout our dad’s treatment.

We sought out the essential oils with the most potent healing properties, and we also considered the impact the layering of the scents had on our mood. Did it leave it us feeling lighter? Like we could breathe again? Did it help loosen our chest?

After months of recipe testing we had struck upon a truly unique scent recipe. Not only does the combination of Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Peppermint and Vetiver clear your head and flood the room, it captures and releases our heartfelt hope for healing.


















































































Life injures us all in one way or another, Heal is our fragrant offering. A silent, hopeful, response that you will be made whole again.

Our dad, against the odds, is alive and well, tending to the garden and soaking up every moment of his life. Heal has become a go-to scent for us and many others when your season of life is punishing or overwhelming.

We are crafting an Original Scent Recipe for every season and season of life. Our Seasons scent recipes, which we write with every season, every year, are our most overt expression of seasonal living. But we appreciate the seasons of life we walk through just as much. So Heal is joined by Calm, Rest, Restore and by Celebrate, Joy, Comfort and Explore. Each inspired by a need to connect with something… be it celebration, joy, rest or healing.

About The Founders

 

Sisters and co-founders Abbie Price and Roanna Day recently traded city for country, leaving office jobs and great coffee shops behind! They have since fallen in love with the restorative power of living connected to the seasons and are passionate about inviting others to do the same, through scent.

They hand pour their luxury, refillable candles on their Welsh farm. GHFS candles are refillable with their simple, pioneering, Pillar Refills (simply drop them in).

The sisters work with a thriving range of artisan potters across the UK. Every single candle pot is hand thrown and hand glazed by a master ceramicist. Abbie and Roanna are so proud of the work GHFS does to encourage and energise the contemporary ceramics scene in the UK.
