Description
Shanxi, circa 1900
The 'cloud head' carved spandrels at the top of each of the four legs of this lovely table are a classic feature of Chinese tables throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties. This type of table would have been used for various purposes, from displaying offerings, porcelain or bronzes to serving wine. This one is made in elm, with double stretchers supporting the legs. With a lovely colour and tone to the finish, it would make a beautiful console in a modern setting.
