Description
Medicine chests with multiple drawers for holding herbs and other remedies, were used throughout China by apothecaries and pharmacists. The larger ones were referred to as hundred eye chests (or 'bei yau chu' in Chinese) due to the multitude of drawers. This modern day warm elm version has larger drawers than would the originals, each one being ideal to hold CDs and DVDs. Sixteen drawers in total can hold up to 400 CDs or use them for socks or cosmetics. As one Chinese scholar wrote, a drawer is a place that copes with idleness and hides incompetence and we think this piece offers a beautiful way to get organised. Made from solid elm with dovetailed drawers and brass ring pull handles.
