Description
Our reproduction wedding cabinet looks exceptionally striking in the black lacquer. According to Chinese tradition cabinets like these would at one time have been presented as part of a bride's wedding dowry, the contents of the cabinet would have included such items as - fabrics, clothes and silks. The term 'Wedding Cabinet' is a more recent westernised description. In ancient China they would normally be made in either red or black lacquer and, as in our beautiful reproduction versions, they were typically adorned with large circular brass plates on the doors. The plates on these ones are etched with the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. The cabinets are made in solid elm wood, and include a wooden hanging rail inside as well as three removable shelves. They can therefore be used as an oriental style wardrobe or for general storage. Two small drawers at the bottom provide additional storage space.
