Description
A highly desirable large vintage leather trunk from the 1910s-20s. Often referred to as the 'Golden Age Of Travel'.
The quality of leather and fabrication of this robust trunk is clear. An extremely top-end piece of vintage luggage.
Scaramanga is very impressed with this travel accessory's weight - which is reflective of the era. It was the era of steam trains and ocean-going cruise ship steaming the Atlantic (a 4-5 day trip we're told) - so a trunk had to be well built. Back then, you would have had a platform or quay-side porter to help with logistics with heavy-weight luggage.
Study the photos and appreciate the excellent quality of this trunk - a testament to its previous owner - 'Bain'.
This piece retains its original leather handle tag and numerous authentic travel tags. Interestingly, we can see this trunk (and owner) were in the Grand Union Hotel in New York.
The trunk would make a superb coffee table or an innovative side table. Alternatively, simply use it as an eye-catching statement piece for a hallway, bedroom or living room.
Its few minor scuffs and surface markings only add to to the leather's fine patina.
Opening the trunk reveals an interior with very few marks or stains. The interior is trimmed with leather edges, with a removeable tray with a small lidded compartment.
Large Leather Trunk size: W92cm x D56cm x H32cm.
