We are proud to announce our collaboration with the Conservation Foundation in becoming stockists for their native Elm saplings. Fifty years after Dutch Elm disease wiped out 25 million trees in Britain, the foundation is attempting to unlock the mystery of why some trees survived ……And in doing so it is hoped that a new generation of Elms will become established and once more become part of our heritage for a future generation to enjoy. By purchasing a native Elm sapling, people will have a chance to join. “The Great Elm Experiment” customers will be asked to register their tree on the Foundation’s Elm map and give a progress report. These young elms make an ideal purchase for anyone interested in being part of this high profile experiment in Britain. They are also a great gift for any occasion and can be bought from Trees Direct without participation in the Great Elm Experiment. We hope that you will find this of interest and help us to offer your readers the chance to buy an Elm so that one day Elms will be back and part of our landscape. Please get in touch with me if you would like further information, prices and images. Our young Elms purchased as gifts will go out in our hessian sack, planting instructions, gift card and a certificate of participation and provenance from the Conservation Foundation. With Best Wishes, Diana Beamish July 2010
