Oriental furniture specialist Shimu has announced its latest collection of Chinese antique furniture, now available to order online or through its showroom in West Yorkshire.

The collection was selected by Shimu's director, James Cottrell, on his latest sourcing trip to China and includes antique cabinets, sideboards, chairs and tables from the far-flung regions of China. Each piece has been carefully restored by skilled carpenters to maintain its character, ensuring that generations to come can enjoy its beauty.

The new collection includes a number of beautiful armoires and wedding cabinets from Shanxi province in central China - a region famous for the quality of its furniture making for centuries and for its wonderful lacquered cabinets in red or black, decorated with gold leaf or with paintings of landscapes and traditional floral designs. The equivalent of the bride to be's 'bottom drawer', these cabinets were originally presented as part of a bridal dowry and now make gorgeous statement pieces in a bedroom or living space.
The pieces will be arriving with Shimu's next container, to be shipped from China in the coming weeks. They are available to order now with delivery to customers expected in November. With around 30 pieces newly available to order and many more to be added to the collection soon, there is plenty of choice for those wishing to own a unique item of furniture with a rich slice of China's history behind it.
