-    Have your camera at eye level and look straight at it, especially when you are talking. You can put your laptop on some blocks or a cardboard box to elevate it. Make sure you phone has enough charge or your laptop is plugged in as it uses a lot of energy.

-    Face the light- make sure the window is in front of you. Bring in additional lighting if it is evening or dark. You can use a spotlight or ring light if you have one.

-    Sit close to the screen, especially if you are on a call with many people. Do not move around the room, eat or look bored- try and smile and show you are listening and engaging with the conversation.

-    Use an external microphone, headphones or air pods when you can and particularly if the call is being recorded. Just talk in your normal voice as if you are talking to someone in front of you.

-    When you are not talking hit the mute button, but make sure you still look engaged in the conversation. Do not eat during a call unless you are having a virtual dinner party!

-    Choose your background wisely- make it uncluttered if possible- a white background is great or create a more curated background – a beautiful lovely piece of art in the background, a tidy bookshelf or something to add interest such as beautiful object or vase of flowers for example. If you are using zoom’s own background choice that is fine but do not use an animated one- it is very annoying.

-    If you are wearing jewellery make sure you don’t have bracelets that clink together, a necklace that jingles or dangly earrings which can create extra noise. But do wear pieces that are fun and bright and light up your face and show your personality.

-    People will only see the upper part of your body so wear a nice printed top or shirt or a fun t- shirt. Brush you hair, apply a bit of make up or your favourite lipstick. It is so uplifting to see someone who has made an effort.

-    It is fun to be creative with your outfit and space- particularly if you are having regular calls- it is a talking point to see you in a different outfit or to spot the difference in the background.

-  Everybody has tech issues so do not panic, make sure you are prepared with your notes and questions jotted down. Have a cup of tea or coffee, a glass of water at the ready. Enjoy
