When creating pieces of art, Joanna expresses her intrinsic need for an emotional connection, both human and environmental:   “for me art is about human connection and communicating energy or an emotion.  When I create art for myself it is about my relationship with nature and my environment and I hope that comes across”.

Tree boughs suspend gracefully from the ceiling canopy and undulate gently down towards a midway point, creating a unique focal perspective.  This stunning pattern disposition is deeply rooted in her love of Japanese ideology. She reflects : “in my opinion Japnese art seems to have the same reverence for nature but it is the composition used in Japanese art that I love so much. It is the very considered use of negative space. The simplicity that lets the focal point of the picture sing out”.

Cherry Blossom encourages the eye upwards, aggrandising a space.  Furniture sits perfectly uninterrupted below whilst Sakura blossom fills the typical void wallspace above with delicate Chinoiserie floral stems. Joanna extols this unique perspective -  “I like that the composition trails down from above, like being under the canopy, I think it gives a nurturing feel.”
