With the Charcoal Maker Petromax reinterprets the charcoal burning tradition. Barbecue enthusiasts can easily make their own charcoal with the handy stainless steel box. Logs and thick branches smolder in the fire under exclusion of air to produce high-quality charcoal for special barbecue experiences. If you use your own wood, the result is guaranteed to be free of pollutants.

Individual Aromas
Beech, birch, pear tree - the special feature of homemade coal is its aroma, which varies depending on the type of wood used. In particular, the wood from fruit trees that are no longer bearing provides a fruity note to the barbecue charcoal. How about a tomahawk steak grilled caveman-style directly on glowing coals of apple tree wood? When smocking fish, for example, the charcoal from the Charcoal Maker also gives an individual aroma note and ensures an optimal taste experience.

Convincing Quality
Due to its high carbon content, homemade charcoal glows for a particularly long time with little smoke. Outdoor cooks need not worry about smoke or the pollutants it contains. Particularly high temperatures are achieved with DIY charcoal when hardwoods, such as beech, oak or acacia, are used in the Charcoal Maker. Another advantage: The homemade charcoal can be carefully extinguished and reused.

The Principle of Pyrolysis
The Charcoal Maker is based on the ancient principle of pyrolysis, in which wood is burned in an oxygen-poor environment. Without having to build a charcoal kiln in the old charcoal-burner manner, outdoor cooks can easily produce pollutant-free charcoal for the outdoor kitchen with the two-part stainless steel box. To do this, the container box is filled with dry logs and branches. The cover box seals the Charcoal Maker airtight, so that the oxygen supply inside is as low as possible. Thus, the stainless steel box is placed directly into a moderately burning fire. During pyrolysis, yellow-brownish wood gases and wood tar are emitted. If the gases turn into white smoke, the homemade aromatic charcoal is ready. Depending on the type of wood, charcoal production takes from two hours for softwood and up to three to four hours for hardwood. Once the Charcoal Maker has cooled down completely, you can take out your own charcoal. The knock test gives a first indication of the quality: the lighter the charcoal sounds, the higher the carbon content.
