From a typical garden chair to a leather sofa or an entire dining set. From trash to flash. - a collection aimed at creating an alternative recycling concept. A finish with attitude that gives the piece new life, it’s own appeal and personality zing. Meet Dr Spunk Some say he is a mad scientist, some a recycling superhero others just call him Dr Spunk. Creating bespoke finishes with his signature trademark - being black. He searches the streets and seconds stores on the lookout for forgotten relics, mutating them into contemporary and unique objects. Alexander Lotersztain was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1977, he graduated from Industrial Design at Ort School. He moved to Australia age 19. Travel has always being his main source of inspiration. It was in Australia that he further graduated from the Queensland College of Art, receiving many design awards, including the Design Institute of Australia Prize "Best Design Student". At GK Planning & Design in Tokyo he participated in the development of products for clients such as Asahi, Mizuno and others. He developed a range of low furniture at IDEE Headquarters, including his acclaimed "skid seaters" and “softsofa” for Sputnik and defied the pre-conceptions of existing industrialized products with his "lightflow" light. He has participated in international exhibitions with Sputnik, Designers Block London and further exhibitions in/Tokyo/Milan/New York/San Francisco/Berlin/Moscow and one of his products is part of the design Collection at the Pompidou Museum in Paris. He currently collaborates with companies around the globe including IDEE-Sputnik/Japan, Planex/Australia, SIGG/Switzerland, COVO/Italy, Ufl/New Zeland, Escofet/Spain, S&G/Australia and InAfrica Foundation as lead design consultant. Alexander Lotersztain was named one of the100 most influential top designers worldwide in &fork by Phaidon, top "10" most influential faces in Design by Scene Design Quarterly 2007 and top 10 of 100 Young Brightest Australian Achievers Bayer/Bulletin Award. He has won many awards in both product and interior design and his work has appeared in design journals around the world. Alexander is also part of the "Smart State Council” work group for the Queensland Government, drafting the Smart State design Strategy 2020. Latest project: Limes Hotel - Part of designhotels.com. The hotel opened its door in Brisbane on June 2008. The project covered every aspect of interior, image and branding, from bedroom design and layout to glassware for the bar.
