Thorndown Paint on how to revitalise tired wooden furnishings

New research from exterior wood paint specialist Thorndown show homeowners are looking to breathe new life into outdoor spaces.

Using data from Pinterest, Thorndown discovered searches for ‘patio decorating ideas’ up 100% over the last month, while ‘DIY wood projects’ are up 80% over the same period.

Caroline Thornborough, Design Director of Thorndown, said: “The cost-of-living crisis as well as the growing desire to adopt more sustainable lifestyles, means homeowners are becoming increasingly creative when it comes to curating their living spaces.

“As we approach the summer months, that focus moves outside. Upcycling is becoming a popular way of revitalising tired garden furniture and accessories.”

Thorndown’s range of high-performing wood paints and timber treatments offer the full upcycling package for their customers.

Thorndown’s stain-blocking primer seals porous surfaces and blocks stubborn and persistent stains, while Thorndown’s wood preserver protects softwood timber from brown rot and blue stain fungi.

Thorndown’s technically excellent wood paint boasts incredible eco credentials too.

Ben Thornborough, Thorndown’s Manager Director and Mixologist, said: “We really want to help our customers enjoy their wood furnishings longer and we are confident our range of paint and treatments will bring new life to wooden accessories this summer and beyond.”

Here Ben shares his top tips for those who want to give their outdoor products a summer makeover:

·       Sample pots are your best friend. Not only will they ensure you’re getting exactly the colour you want, they are perfect for small scale makeovers such as birdhouses and crates

·       Do your prep. Sand off any old paint and give large projects that have lots of stubborn dirt on surfaces a blast with a pressure washer before even thinking about painting

·       Preserve with Thorndown’s wood preserver if required

·       Take your time. Wait for the wood to dry and preserver to be absorbed before applying paint and consider whether to treat products with Thorndown’s stain-blocking primer

·       And finally, get creative. Upcycling small garden products is a great way to kick start your upcycling journey. Build up your confidence using sample pots on small projects before tackling something large

Thorndown’s range of wood paint and timber treatments are available now from thorndown.co.uk with sample pots starting at £6 for 150ml.
