Introducing Indilisi, “where sustainability meets artistry”, a new fashion brand by Safia Minney, MBE, made with 100% organic cotton, handcrafted at a Fair Trade Project in rural Bangladesh, in collaboration with industry changemakers and leading names.

Meet Indilisi, a new brand championing slow fashion for a Just Transition for the textile and fashion industry. The new brand, founded by Safia Minney, MBE, supported by industry changemakers Brett and Scott Staniland, Shayla Sakora, Caryn Franklin, Kate Osborne and Fair Trade groups in Bangladesh and India, is proud to put people and planet central to the design and business model.

Designed for longevity, the collection encourages a shift towards deepening our appreciation and reconnecting us with handcrafted garments, makers and the natural world. Launching with a collection of timeless and versatile pieces, this collection prioritises social impact and environmental sustainability.

Made with 100% organic cotton, the collection is handwoven, hand embroidered, and hand tailored in a village in Bangladesh. It stems from a longstanding partnership with Swallows, a Fair Trade-guaranteed social enterprise, and Safia. Swallows is committed to providing livelihoods and fair wages for rural female artisans. "We run development programmes through our NGO to promote literacy, education, health, and women's rights awareness," says Santo Haque, Handicrafts Manager at Swallows. "Our artisans are highly skilled in traditional techniques, from handweaving to hand embroidery, ensuring each piece tells a story of craftsmanship and care."

The clothing collection will be available to the UK for pre-order to be shipped on 30th April at https://indilisi.com/.

Alongside the clothing collection, Indilisi offers designers, makers, and brands access to Fairtrade-certified organic cotton surplus fabrics. This initiative promotes organic and regenerative small holder farming practices at the pioneering Chetna Organic project in India. Fabric production uses 70% renewable energy and fully traceable fabrics by the metre.

“Through Indilisi, we return to the roots, placing women, heritage textiles, and organic farming at the heart of our work. The Regenerative Fashion Futures research underscores the imperative to promote crafts, advocate for organic farming practices, and ensure Fair Trade standards for a Just Transition in the industry. Sometimes, the simplest solution is the one we need most: reducing our reliance on raw materials, keeping what we have in circulation for longer, and creating optimal livelihoods for those at every level of our society. Indilisi embodies these principles with a bold new vision for empowering producers within our supply chain. It reframes the need for slow fashion and design, emphasising crafts and sustainable materials such as organic and regeneratively farmed cotton - a vision for a post-growth fashion industry and a just transition where Fair Trade forms its foundational ethos.”

"Being part of Indilisi means actively participating in solving the problems we face and providing solutions, particularly by supporting an artisanal community that honours their craft and skills. It addresses the issue of constant newness by offering a place for brands and individuals to purchase traceable surplus fabric. It’s more than just another fashion brand or a clothing line.”
