A Hand Painted Tribute to Cornwall’s Coastal Heritage

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Marlborough Tiles is proud to announce the launch of Cornish Delft, a new collection of hand painted ceramic Delft wall tiles that celebrates Cornwall’s rich cultural heritage and coastal charm. Inspired by the classic elegance of Delftware and reimagined with a distinctly Cornish spirit, each tile in the collection is a miniature work of art, designed to bring character and storytelling into the home.

The collection comprises nine individual illustrations, lovingly hand painted by Marlborough’s in-house artists. The designs draw from original watercolour sketches found in the brand’s archives, some dating back as far as 1935, and include scenes evocative of Cornwall’s seafaring life - from the silhouettes of tin mines standing against the sky to the rhythmic movements of fisherman at work, these tiles capture the essence of a region shaped by the ocean.

“Delft is really having a moment right now - and rightly so,” says Jamie Robb, Owner of Marlborough Tiles. “Its timeless appeal works beautifully in both classic and modern interiors. With Cornish Delft, we wanted to revive some of the original archive designs in our collection - to honour our own Delft heritage and to showcase the incredible skill of our hand painting team. This collection is, in many ways, a love letter to Cornwall - a celebration of its coastal charm, rich history, and the artisanal techniques that define our work.”

Designed to be used as feature accents or arranged in panels, Cornish Delft tiles offer endless creative potential, whether behind a traditional range cooker, as part of a kitchen splashback, or to bring heritage charm to a utility space. Featured in a Neptune kitchen, the tiles frame the room with warmth and artistry, adding personality without overpowering the space.

Handcrafted in Marlborough

Every tile in the Cornish Delft collection is handmade in our Marlborough factory, where traditional craftsmanship meets time-honoured techniques. Formed from a rustic terracotta biscuit, each tile is individually hand painted by our artists before being finished with our signature gloss crackle glaze. The collection is available in two timeless background shades - Antique White, a warm off-white, and Chalk White, a brighter tone that brings contrast and clarity to the illustrations. A coordinating corner motif tile is also available, allowing for a refined and cohesive finish. In keeping with our commitment to authenticity, every tile is signed by the artist who painted it — a small but meaningful mark of its uniqueness.

About Marlborough Tiles

At Marlborough Tiles, we transform humble objects into works of art. Think of wall and floor tiles and you’re likely to imagine functional rectangles in busy areas like bathrooms, kitchens and halls. But for us a tile is where science meets art. Each one represents the sum total of experimentation, learning, technique and passion passed down for generations.

We have been making high quality wall tiles by hand since the 1930s, exploring the visual potential of elegant hand painted designs and richly coloured glazes. Today, as Britain’s leading artisan tile producer, we’re still driven by a passion for pushing the boundaries of our craft.
