Over half of dog owners are bringing their furry friends with them on car journeys – but 29pc of them do not use a harness or secure cage when doing so and are in violation of UK driving law.

A whopping 85pc of drivers do not know the rules of the road when it comes to travelling with dogs – and four out of 10 drivers are unaware that they could face a £5,000 fine for travelling with an unrestrained pet.

And the risk of a fine is higher than ever.

Eight out of ten Brits will opt for a staycation over a trip abroad this year, according to the Post Office – making now the perfect time to get familiar with safe travel requirements for pets, and stock up on necessary essentials.
