A Warwickshire Mum and small business owner has launched a heartfelt national campaign to support grieving families by providing free bereavement hand and footprint kits to every neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and bereavement suite in the UK.
Emma, the co-founder of a husband and wife run business, has turned part of her baby memory book into A4 and A5 prints as part of a newly launched Crowdfunder campaign. The goal is to raise £5,000 in 30 days to fund at least 1,000 memory kits.
Each kit — which costs just £5 to produce — includes a clean-touch ink pad, illustrated print, and materials to help parents take handprints or footprints from their baby. These keepsakes offer a meaningful, tangible memory during the most devastating of times.
“This project was inspired by Dexter, a baby who was stillborn in 2024,” Emma explained. “His mum reached out to me after discovering our book on social media. She said she would have loved to have had something like that when Dexter was born. Her words stuck with me, and I’ve been working on this campaign ever since — in his memory.”
The campaign launched on June 27th, and is part of the "Built By Her, Backed By Us" competition, a nationwide initiative run by Crowdfunder and Muddy Stilettos, designed to spotlight female-led businesses making a difference. By reaching her funding target and gathering broad community support, Emma could also be in the running for an additional £10,000 in funding.
Emma is also calling on support from communities - both to help spread the word and to assist with donations or product production. “We’re asking individuals and businesses to consider donating or helping in any way they can,” she added. “Even small contributions can make a big difference. And if a business is able to support us, for example with printing, we’d love to recognise that help on our social media channels.”
