Celebrated designer Fiona Howard is unveiling her latest wallpaper collection, “Shipping Forecast”, a meticulously handcrafted design that pays tribute to the iconic radio broadcast which celebrates 100 years in 2025.
Launching 1st August, the new design encapsulates Fiona Howard’s distinctive signature style—painstakingly hand-carved lino blocks printed with an artist’s eye and a storyteller’s heart. With each pattern, Fiona invites us into a visual voyage through the 31 sea areas of the British Isles, from Viking to Biscay, Trafalgar to Dogger, all cleverly represented with bespoke maritime icons.
The wallpaper evokes a charming nostalgia, Puffins, lighthouses, sailing ships, migrating swifts, shells and clouds drift across the design in a rhythmic flow that mirrors the poetic cadence of the Shipping Forecast itself. Each icon is drawn and carved by hand, resulting in a textured, tactile finish that can only come from a true artisan’s touch.
“The Shipping Forecast has always held a deep personal resonance for me,” says Fiona Howard, “My dad was a sailor and understood the ocean, I always felt safe while sailing with him, even out of sight of land. It holds a place in people’s hearts and is a symbol of British identity. I wanted to translate that into a design that feels decorative, emotionally evocative and a little bit quirky.”
Known for her nature-inspired patterns and traditional printmaking techniques, Fiona demonstrates that slow craft and storytelling remain vital in contemporary interiors. This new collection is a celebration, not only of Britain’s coastline and maritime history, but also of the handmade.
