Deadhead to Encourage New Blooms

Remove faded flowers from bedding plants, roses, and perennials to promote further flowering and maintain a tidy appearance.

Water Efficiently

With rising temperatures, it’s essential to water deeply in the early morning or evening to reduce evaporation. Prioritise pots, hanging baskets, and fruit and vegetables.

Installing water butts is crucial, especially with incoming hose pipe bans. Select drought tolerant plants that will continue to provide colour, texture and interest even with minimal watering when planning planting schemes.

Feed Regularly

Support flowering plants and vegetables with a liquid feed every one to two weeks to boost blooms and crop production. This boosts flower power and plant health as well as fruit and vegetables productions. Your plants will thank you for it!

Trim and Tidy

Keep the garden neat by trimming hedges, pruning back summer-flowering shrubs like lavender after blooming, and cutting back leggy plants to encourage bushy growth.

Harvest Frequently

Pick crops like courgettes, tomatoes, beans, and herbs regularly to encourage continued productivity and enjoy them at their best.

Tip: Use a trug or basket for easy collecting. Pick Sweet pea flowers regularly to enjoy indoors!

Monitor for Pests

Check for aphids, caterpillars, and other pests. Early intervention with organic methods helps prevent damage. Use companion planting, beneficial insects, and natural sprays like neem oil to organically deter garden pests.

Sow for Late Summer and Autumn

There’s still time to sow quick-growing salad leaves for summer harvesting, vibrant primroses for autumn and winter colour, and striking foxgloves to get a head start on next year’s blooms — perfect for gardeners looking to keep the colour going and plan ahead.

Plan Ahead for Spring flowering bulbs (in store late August)

Consider where you would like to enjoy spring colour. Our Verve range of flowering bulbs means you can plant this autumn to enjoy up to five months of beautiful colour from February to June.

Bonus Tip: Refresh Containers

With fresh bedding, don’t forget to include trailing plants for added interest and more natural planting schemes. Mix some slow-release fertiliser into your compost to keep your baskets and containers healthy and flowering through to the first frosts.
