Claire Garner Interprets Pinterest’s Rustic Farmhouse Trend for Modern Living

Claire Garner, Founder and Director of Claire Garner Design Studio, reveals how this season’s favourite trend blends warmth, authenticity and timeless style.

A Season of Slow Living

Pinterest’s summer trend report has named Rustic Farmhouse as one of the biggest home décor trends of the season and it is easy to see why. In an increasingly fast‑paced and digital world, many of us are longing for interiors that feel calm, authentic and full of character. For Claire Garner, the rustic farmhouse look answers that need with a style rooted in warmth and timeless beauty.

Warmth and Timelessness

Claire comments, “The rustic farmhouse interior trend embraces natural textures, vintage or antique pieces and a lived‑in, layered style that feels both grounded and inviting, making it perfect for creating a homely, relaxed vibe. Imagine lime-washed walls, rustic wooden beams, reclaimed finishes andsoft, earthy tones that reflect the natural world.”

Nostalgia Meets Relevance

“This trend is resonating so strongly right now because people are craving authenticity and comfort in their homes,” Claire explains. “There is a real shift towards thoughtful interiors that tell a story. Rustic farmhouse style offers a sense of nostalgia and a strong connection to nature, while still feeling relevant and fresh.”

Bringing Texture to Life

When it comes to bringing this look into the home, Claire recommends beginning with texture. “Start with natural materials and experiment with layering textures, such as linen, wool, timber and stone. Mix old and new, seek out vintage treasures and avoid anything that feels overly polished or perfect. This look is about creating a space that feels honest and not overly curated.”

Perfect for Social Spaces

While the rustic farmhouse style can work beautifully throughout the home, Claire finds it is especially suited to communal spaces where comfort and connection matter most. “I see this trend working particularly well in kitchens and living spaces,” she says. “These are the rooms where family and friends gather and the rustic farmhouse style really enhances that sense of warmth and togetherness. A shaker kitchen with aged brass hardware, open shelves displaying handmade pottery or a reclaimed wood dining table would all sit perfectly within this look.”

Extending the Style Throughout the Home

While kitchens and living spaces maybe the natural homes for this style, rustic farmhouse can also work beautifully in other rooms too. In a bedroom, for example, soft linen bedding layered with a chunky wool throw and paired with a muted upholstered headboard creates a serene and restful retreat. For a bathroom, natural stone tiles, timber furniture and antique brass fittings will add warmth and character to what might otherwise feel like a cold, clinical space. Whatever the room, the key is to incorporate authentic details and natural materials so that every corner feels inviting, personal and timeless.
