EMBARGOED UNTIL 1ST OCTOBER 2025

Pivot launches sustainable DIY Christmas crackers

Pre-orders open 1st October 2025

This Christmas, Pivot, the social enterprise empowering people experiencing homelessness, is reimagining the festive cracker. Instead of plastic toys and throwaway fillers: each Pivot cracker contains everything you need to handcraft your own pair of upcycled acetate earrings.

The idea is inspired by Pivot’s Makers, graduates of the Pivot programme who are employed to make jewellery in their hostel bedrooms, earning the London Living Wage as they build skills and confidence. By bringing the same materials and process into a cracker, Pivot offers customers a window into this craft, alongside a taste of the acetate-earring workshops the organisation runs across London for corporate events, parties and community groups.

Each cracker includes pre-drilled acetate strips, earring findings, a nail file, a festive paper hat and a QR code linking to a step-by-step tutorial led by Pivot’s Master Maker, Jason. Using acetate donated by spectacle makers across London, the earrings are as sustainable as they are stylish.

As more people move away from plastic filled crackers and towards thoughtful, creative table gifts, Pivot’s crackers offer a new festive tradition that is colourful, joyful and sustainable, while delivering real social impact.

The crackers are available in three colourways, Berry, Spruce and Evergreen and can be bought individually (£15) or in a box of six (£95). A separate toolkit (£10) with pliers and sandpaper is available for those who don’t already have the basics at home.

By choosing Pivot’s crackers, customers make their Christmas celebrations more meaningful and low-waste, while also supporting people rebuilding their lives after homelessness.

Bella Jordan, Head of Creative at Pivot, says:

"Christmas is about bringing people together and we wanted our crackers to reflect that. Rather than being filled with throwaway fillers, they spark creativity, encourage connection around the table and support people rebuilding their lives after homelessness. It’s not just about a pair of earrings, it’s about starting new traditions that celebrate craft, sustainability and brighter futures.”

About Pivot

We are the social enterprise empowering people experiencing homelessness to pivot their lives. Our mission is to bring meaningful and flexible employment to those who might otherwise not have access to it, and in doing so giving them the confidence and skills they need to take steps away from temporary accommodation.

Our founder, Alice, was inspired to start Pivot after her involvement with Year Here and working with Fat Macy's in a local homeless shelter. She witnessed the barriers faced by people in hostels, such as limited work opportunities and access issues. Alice saw an opportunity to address these challenges while shifting the narrative around homelessness.

We offer paid employment, coaching and skills to individuals who lack access to such opportunities. Through our jewellery making programmes, we provide income and skills training, enabling our participants to take steps towards independence from temporary accommodation.

Since our launch in 2020, we've been dedicated to creating beautiful pieces of jewellery that not only tell a story but also make a positive impact. From our recycled acetate earrings to our hand-finished bangles, every item is crafted with love and purpose.
