This October, Marlborough Tiles proudly launches the Bloomsbury collection – a new range of handcrafted wall tiles inspired by the richly creative lives of the early twentieth-century Bloomsbury Group.
Available in two versatile tile formats – a 13 x 13cm square and a 13 x 6.3cm brick–alongside complementary trim pieces, the collection features thirteen evocative colours, each finished with a subtle crackle glaze that offers ageless charm and depth. The palette draws upon the hand painted interiors of Charleston farmhouse, the surrounding Sussex landscape, and the expressive use of colour in the group’s artworks.
From Grant’s Gold and Charleston Red to Woolf Green and Ethel’s Sand, every hue nods to the painterly spirit and bohemian elegance of the Bloomsbury artists. The tones range from soft whites and botanical greens to romantic pinks, warm ochres, and inky literary blues–shades designed to feel quietly expressive and enduringly classic
“With the Bloomsbury collection we wanted to capture the spirit of the Bloomsbury artists – their freedom of expression, their love of colour, and the joy they found in surrounding themselves with handmade beauty,” says Anita Rivers, Product Development Manager at Marlborough Tiles.
Each tile is crafted by hand in Marlborough Tiles’ Wiltshire studio, using traditional methods and bespoke glaze recipes that create gentle surface variations and a depth of colour that reflects the light beautifully. “Each shade has been carefully developed tof eel timeless yet emotive, much like the interiors of Charleston House that inspired them,” adds Rivers.
The collection celebrates individuality and imperfection, while remaining perfectly suited to contemporary interiors. “These are tiles with real character, designed to bring warmth and individuality into the home,” says Rivers
