Looking Class

Want to instantly uplift your space? Time to indulge in an opulent mirror says the experts at Olivia’s

If you want to change the look and feel of your space this new year, investing in one crucial piece of furniture is key.

According to Faye Simons, Head of Interior Design at luxury homeware retailer Olivia’s, a statement mirror could unlock a new perspective on interiors.

She said: “A mirror is a surprisingly powerful tool in interior design, both visually and psychologically.

“Using a well-located, beautiful mirror in any room can not only create the illusion of space but it can amplify light and influence the mood of the room and the people in it.”

The ultimate blend of form and function, a beautiful mirror not only looks great but can also highlight other decorative choices.

Faye said: “Mirrors are the perfect accessory to elevate the richness of your design choices. Use them to reflect your key pieces, maybe opposite a piece of wall art so you get to enjoy it from multiple aspects.

“Let the mirror draw attention to your favourite corners.”

Even in smaller spaces a mirror can have a massive impact.

Faye said: “If you are decorating a smaller room in the house, positioning a mirror opposite a window can trick your eye into perceiving more depth and volume. The light that reflects from the window will light up the darkest of corners and make it feel more open.

“If you don’t have a window nearby, put the mirror above a console and add a beautiful table lamp to spread the light around.”

And finally, Faye’s key piece of advice for anyone investing in a new mirror this new year: go bold.

She said: “Let's not forget that the mirror itself can be a beautiful focal point. Be brave and test the boundaries of your design limits, add that extra pop of colour or choose something with some intricate detailing to make it really stand out.

“Make the statement intentional, practical and of course, beautiful.”
