UAL x Tate Christmas Cards 2025

It’s that time of the year again! Introducing our four winning designs from our annual UAL x Tate Christmas Card student competition: Yuqing Lei, Katherine Chen, Natalia Makri and Kate Zabudska. Now in it’s 7th year, we are thrilled to work with Tate once again to produce this festive opportunity for University of the Arts London students.

This year’s designs were selected with help from our very own maker James Barker, along with a panel formed of members from the Tate’s Merchandising Team. Each winning design is distinct in style and theme, but are all united by the sentiment of bringing people together during the holiday season.

We asked our winning students what their inspirations were, how they found working for an established brand such as the Tate, and what their favourite Christmas traditions are. Read the full interviews here.

Yuqing Lei | The Shape of Wishes

Yuquing’s words: “The idea came from my first time writing Christmas cards in London, wondering which language to use for friends of different cultures. London is so diverse, and I am part of it. So, I created a checkered pattern of different languages, where blessings take shape through many encounters.”

Katherine Chen | Pieces of Joy

Katherine’s words: “My design, Pieces of Joy, was inspired by the small but meaningful moments of togetherness that come with the holiday season. I wanted to capture a sense of warmth, connection, celebration and the way little details can come together to form a bigger picture of joy.”

Natalia Makri | A Sunday Christmas

Natalia’s words: “This card was inspired by the idea of spending Christmas with friends who become like family. Coming from Greece, where Christmas is strongly tied to family gatherings, moving to London for my studies made me realise how important friends are in creating that same sense of warmth and belonging. That’s why I called the card A Sunday Christmas, evoking the traditional family Sunday gathering, but reimagined with friends.”

Kate Zabudska | This Wonderful Time

Kateryna's words: “My main inspiration came from my own personal memories of decorating my family’s Christmas tree. I have vivid memories of carefully holding an ornament, deciding on the perfect spot, and placing it with care. That simple ritual always felt magical to me, and it is what I most strongly associate with Christmas.”

About not just a shop

Based in Holborn, London, not just a shop sells design products and artwork created by University of the Arts London students and alumni to the public.

It exists to support students who want to run their own product-based businesses by teaching them about working with retailers.

We operate a not-for-profit model, so all proceeds are reinvested back into running the shop and supporting students and graduates from all UAL Colleges with their businesses.

When you buy from us you're supporting a small independent maker, and supporting artists.
