Recycled interiors and reimagined furniture

At ercol, longevity has always been at the heart of our design philosophy. Furniture made to last, crafted with care, and designed to be lived with for generations. Today, that commitment extends beyond structure and form, embracing responsible material choices that reflect a more considered future.

Celebrating Quallofil® and ercol’s continued dedication to a better future.

Since September 2022, ercol has incorporated Quallofil® cushion interiors into two of its classic upholstery ranges, Marino and Aldbury. Designed to offer the same comfort and resilience expected from ercol seating, Quallofil® represents a meaningful step forward in sustainable design without compromise.

Quallofil® cushion fillings are made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles, as part of a global recycling initiative that transforms waste into long-lasting comfort. Importantly, 50 percent of this material is Prevented Ocean Plastic™, collected from coastlines at risk of plastic pollution before it can enter the ocean. By integrating these materials into established designs, ercol continues its journey towards more responsible manufacturing while preserving the integrity and comfort of its furniture.

The Marino and Aldbury ranges demonstrate how thoughtful innovation can sit quietly within familiar forms. Externally, the designs remain unmistakably ercol. Internally, they carry a renewed sense of purpose, reflecting a belief that sustainability should be integrated seamlessly into everyday living.

“Joining our century old commitment to manufacturing soundly constructed furniture that stands the test of time is a fresh commitment to responsible British craftsmanship.”

Henry Tadros, Chairman, ercol.

By combining enduring design with progressive materials, ercol continues to explore ways to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the quality, comfort, and craftsmanship it has been known for over more than a century.

About ercol

ercol was established over 100 years ago in 1920 by Italian designer Lucian R Ercolani in High Wycombe, the centre of English furniture making. He was intent on designing and producing relevant and honest furniture, design and people were the cornerstones of his company from the very beginning. This remains true of the company today, it remains family owned with Lucian’s great grandson heading up the business to continue his beliefs today.

Design has always been at the heart of ercol. Our designs constantly evolve to reflect how we live today. We have a talented In-house design team and furniture technicians, to create and develop our furniture designs, we also collaborate with external UK designers to create unique pieces all of which are made with integrity and fit for purpose.
