JYSK predicts 5 key interiors trends for 2026

As we look ahead to 2026, our homes continue to evolve into spaces that reflect both calm and character. Comfort is key, but so is creativity - interiors are becoming softer, more personal and more flexible than ever before. Rikke Blaeside, Design and Range Manager JYSK, reveals five key trends set to shape interior design in 2026.

1. Clean lines, calm spaces

We expect minimalism to remain a strong anchor for 2026: uncluttered surfaces, serene palettes and carefully chosen accents. Interiors that breathe allow quality lighting and design details to truly shine. With the traditional ‘spring clean’ now a year-round mindset, minimalist interiors are increasingly about more than style - they’re about simplifying daily life. This trend celebrates spaces that feel lighter, calmer and easier to live in, proving that a considered home is the ultimate form of everyday luxury. We expect this look to take centre stage throughout the coming year.

2. Colour that speaks not shouts

In 2026 colour makes its comeback but with a whisper instead of a shout.

Colour this year is refined rather than loud: considered, confident and seamlessly tied into the overall palette. These subtle pops of tone allow personality to shine through without overwhelming a space, creating interiors that feel both expressive and timeless - designed to evolve beautifully for years to come. A bold rug, a coloured plant pot or a vibrant accessory is often all it takes.

This shift towards gentler expression is echoed by Pantone’s Colour of the Year, ‘Cloud Dancer’ - a soft, weightless white that acts as a grounding presence. Cloud Dancer encourages a more nuanced approach to colour: layering quiet shades, playing with delicate contrasts and letting texture and materials do the talking. It offers a calm canvas that offers interiors a sense of ease and clarity.

3. Mix and match

It’s clear that wooden shades have become a true home essential, and they are here to stay. Traditionally, many have chosen to match their wooden tones throughout the home, from shelving and furniture to lamps and accessories, creating a cooridinated look.

However, in 2026, its time to mix and match for a refreshed look and feel. Instead of sticking to one tone throughout, we expect to see mixing of different finishes to bring warmth and character to spaces. Pairing light oak with rich walnut, or combining bamboo textures with natural ash, creates a beautifully layered, lived-in look - a fresh twist on the much-loved Scandinavian style.

A simple way to embrace this trend is by layering wood accents throughout your space.

4. Flexible living

In 2026, flexibility will be a driving force in interior design. As our homes continue to serve multiple purposes, from workspace to retreat, adaptable furniture and portable lighting are becoming essential. The focus is on creating spaces that work harder and move with us, rather than holding us in place.

Leading this shift are cordless battery lamps, which perfectly capture the spirit of flexible living. No longer tied to sockets or fixed positions, they make it easier than ever to create atmosphere wherever it is needed. Whether it is soft light in a reading corner, a warm glow on a dining table or gentle lighting on the balcony, battery lamps bring both practicality and comfort into modern living.

5. Chrome o’clock

Chrome accents are making a stylish comeback in our homes. Sleek, shiny and effortlessly modern, chrome is the perfect way to add a touch of sophistication without feeling over the top. It’s cool, reflective finish pairs beautifully with warm woods, soft fabrics and natural textures, creating rooms that feel fresh, balanced and inviting.

This growing love for chrome represents the desire to mix timeless style with modern comfort. Whether it’s a subtle detail or a bold statement piece, chrome brings light and energy into any space. This renewed focus on chrome also reflects in the modern Art Deco trend, where classic geometric lines are being updated with reflective detailing, to bring subtle glamour and a clean, contemporary shine to any space.
