THE EVOLUTION OF FANTIN MOBILE SHELVING SYSTEMS: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE HISTORY OF DESIGN, BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND COLOUR

Fantin traces the evolution of its mobile shelving systems, which have been one of the company's cornerstones for decades. A range born and developed through projects that combine functional efficiency with a distinct aesthetic identity, enhanced by the Fantin palette. A complete colour range that, together with extensive modularity options and accessories, allows each unit to be configured with freedom and precision, making it suitable for any architectural context.

Vela

Vela introduces a clear architectural approach: uninterrupted vertical fronts, punctuated by full-height handles that become at once an aesthetic feature and an ergonomic gesture. Ideal for studios and work environments, Vela can also be installed as a freestanding element, creating a double-sided solution capable of organising and defining professional or domestic open spaces, thanks to the great design flexibility of each module.

Discovery

In Discovery, the reinterpretation draws closer to the more technical spirit of traditional mobile shelving units, retaining the manoeuvring ‘steering wheel’ while updating and refining its form, balancing sober design with large storage capacity. Its linear surfaces allow it to fit into both service areas and more representative contexts, from showrooms to commercial spaces.

Binaria

Binaria stands out for its handle, which is carved directly within the front panel: a detail that conveys a discreet yet decisive character, made even more versatile by its clean lines and proportions. In the bridge version, the system takes on an almost architectural quality, engaging with and structuring its surroundings.

Jordan

Jordan, designed by Dorino Fantin in 1995, is the concept that the whole Fantin family of mobile shelving systems was born. Still highly regarded today for its robustness and smooth movement, Jordan continues to be chosen in contexts where safety and protection of goods are priorities. Its iconic manoeuvring ‘steering wheel’ — at once a distinctive feature and a technical solution, enabling the movement of modules up to 6 metres in length — has made it a benchmark in the sector. Over time, its appearance has been updated, while retaining the structural qualities and industrial nature that have made it so successful.

The great versatility of Fantin's mobile shelving systems finds itself well represented in the design of the Modern Library at the Benedictine monastery of Camaldoli Poppi (Arezzo), where architectural firm Menichetti+Caldarelli chose Discovery and Binaria to organise the spaces dedicated to the conservation of over 35,000 volumes, including parchments, manuscripts, books and community records. Here, Fantin's solutions become a true gateway to the past and to memory, as they stand in an orderly succession of pure white, minimalist monoliths that preserve and protect a priceless archive of memories, confirming how seamlessly contemporary design can dialogue with history.
