National Apprenticeship Week – Celebrating ercol’s continued commitment to investing in the craftspeople of the future

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, ercol is proud to celebrate its ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of skilled craftsmen and women.

For over a century, ercol has been defined by a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Apprenticeships have long played a vital role in maintaining these values, enabling skills and knowledge to be passed from one generation to the next.

ercol offers apprenticeship programmes across both the factory and more recently, the office. Including the successful completion of a marketing apprenticeship and the appointment of a current apprentice within the supply chain team.

At present, ercol has 17 apprentices working towards their qualifications, with six apprentices successfully completing their programmes in the past year.

Today, ercol apprentices work alongside experienced makers at ercol’s Princes Risborough factory, learning time-honoured and traditional techniques while embracing modern methods and technologies. From machining to assembly and polishing, apprentices gain a hands-on understanding of what it means to create furniture built to last.

"Apprenticeships are essential to ensure that we pass on and develop the necessary skills that ercol needs to support growth and maintain sufficient knowledge and capability in the business as our employees retire."

-     Ian Peers. Operations Director at ercol.

By investing in apprenticeships, ercol continues to support meaningful career pathways within British manufacturing, while ensuring the future of quality craftsmanship remains at the heart of the business.

As ercol looks ahead, its commitment remains unchanged: to design and make furniture with integrity, care and skill — and to support the people who will carry these traditions forward for generations to come.

About ercol

ercol was established over 100 years ago in 1920 by Italian designer Lucian R Ercolani in High Wycombe, the centre of English furniture making. He was intent on designing and producing relevant and honest furniture, design and people were the cornerstones of his company from the very beginning. This remains true of the company today, it remains family owned with Lucian’s great grandson heading up the business to continue his beliefs today.

Design has always been at the heart of ercol. Our designs constantly evolve to reflect how we live today. We have a talented In-house design team and furniture technicians, to create and develop our furniture designs, we also collaborate with external UK designers to create unique pieces all of which are made with integrity and fit for purpose.
