UNDER THE SKY OF THE DOLOMITES

Antolini®’s natural stones give new life to a former barn in Cortina d’Ampezzo

In the heart of Cortina d’Ampezzo, an old barn from 1923 is brought back to life thanks to a restoration project that combines architectural rigor with a refined enhancement of wood, the protagonist of the entire intervention. The project is designed by architect Ambra Piccin and coordinated by Sabrina Soldà of SAP Management Ltd. Procurement.

The residence, approximately two hundred square meters spread over three levels, is located among the main Dolomite groups, with large windows creating a constant dialogue with the landscape, making light and the mountains an integral part of the living experience.

Alongside the texture of dried fir, aged iron, and boiled wool, Antolini®’s natural stones find their place, used as a plus to complete and enrich the spaces with balance and elegance, and crafted by the Veronese company Marble & Granite Service, a Verona-based firm specializing in the supply and custom processing of natural stones.

In the dining room, a double door in aged iron leads to the custom-made kitchen, where Quarzite Nera, part of Antolini®’s Exclusive Collection, in Lether finish, defines the countertop—a perfect choice for daily use thanks to the inherently durable nature of the quartzite.

The living room finds its visual focus in the contemporary fireplace, conceived as a monolithic block also in Quarzite Nera by Antolini®. The horizontal front is worked here in Hard Rock finish, part of the Textures+ Collection, which sculpts the surface with a textured, irregular pattern capable of capturing light and enhancing contrasts. The intense tone of the stone becomes a graphic element that interacts with the iron component above, designed to house the television, creating a coherent and refined ensemble.

Quarzite Nera also reappears in the guest bathroom as a backsplash, ensuring material continuity between the main spaces on the floor.

In the bathrooms, Antolini®’s natural stones help define the character of the private area. Grey Roots, a marble from the Natural Stone Collection offered in Lether finish, complements the dried wood with a balanced tone, creating surfaces that are soft to the eye and pleasant to the touch.

The discreet veining introduces refined depth without interrupting the color harmony of the spaces.

In the shower trays, the Hydro treatment from the Textures+ Collection sculpts the stone with micro-irregularities created through high-pressure water jets, generating a dynamic texture that enhances the reflections of natural light. The result is a balance between aesthetics and functionality, consistent with the tailored approach that characterizes the entire project.

The result is a residence that interprets the mountains with grace and rigor, transforming a historic barn into a contemporary living experience, where every material contributes to a harmonious and recognizable balance.
