Compost bins might not be the most attractive of garden accessories but when it comes to function, they certainly hold their own.
According to Forest Garden, the UK’s leading manufacturer and distributor of wooden garden products, the benefits of a compost bin are massive, making them a must-have in any garden.
Jenny Davis, Head of Marketing, Forest Garden, said: “Compost bins are one of the simplest and most effective ways UK households can reduce waste while giving something valuable back to their gardens. Instead of sending kitchen peelings and garden clippings to landfill, composting transforms them into nutrient-rich material that improves soil health naturally.
“It’s a small lifestyle change that can have a big environmental impact. By composting at home, you’re cutting down on food waste, lowering your carbon footprint and supporting a more sustainable way of gardening.”
Forest Garden currently offer two compost bins for sustainably-minded homeowners. The first is its rustic Slot Down Compost Bin, which is perfect for avid gardeners.
Crafted from pressure-treated rough sawn boards, it has been designed to blend in to any garden setting.
It also allows you to make use of your kitchen scraps, and the slot down design makes accessing your compost much easier than a regular bin. Plus, it holds a whopping 650-litres of green waste and if that’s not enough, an extension kit is also available.
To access the compost, all gardeners have to do is simply remove the individual side boards.
For those looking for a more decorative take on composting, Forest Garden’s Beehive Compost Bin has all the functionality of a regular compost bin but has been designed to look like, well, a beehive.
This quirky composter is manufactured using pressure treated softwood. The lid can be propped open and the bottom of the composter has an opening section where gardeners can retrieve mature compost with ease.
Jenny added: “Good compost acts as a natural soil conditioner and using your own compost can also reduce the need for shop-bought materials, saving money over time. It’s a cost-effective way to enhance planting beds, revive tired borders and keep your garden thriving season after season.”
Forest Garden’s range of compost bins are available now, with prices starting at £146.49.
