As the trend for curating our outdoor spaces grows, treating the garden or greenhouse as an extension of our homes, it's natural that investments such as greenhouses become more personalised.

Through colour, texture and decor, homeowners can ensure their outside spaces feel like a considered extension of the home rather than an afterthought. Styling greenhouses seasonally can make them an even more enjoyable place to spend time in as well as finding ways to use some of the wonderful greenery being grown.

Here, premium greenhouse maker Rhino Greenhouses' sales and marketing director, Andrew White, shares his top tips on styling greenhouses this spring.

Introduce colour

For spring, colour is incredibly important. We’re leaving behind grey, miserable days and as the gardens around begin to flourish, consider introducing some of those brightening hues into your greenhouse. Introduce soft shades of sage, butter yellow or terracotta to your pots and tray for a subtle approach to colour.

Creating moments

Think about how you want to feel in your greenhouse - rather than a transactional approach of attending to cuttings and checking in on your crops, embrace the calming feeling that being in nature offers. If you have the space, place a slim bench, bistro chair or even a built-in ledge so you have somewhere to take a moment to pause. Add a pastel-hued throw or cushion for softness and tactility. A small ledge or side table could house a tea-tray or a vintage jug filled with your latest growings or extra foliage to breathe even more life into the space. As well as creating an area where you can enjoy a short rest, it’s the perfect spot to sit down with a book or enjoy an afternoon drink.

Practicality

Greenhouses can be busy spaces already, but styling doesn’t have to mean introducing clutter; think practical yet considered items. Think, beautiful seed containers, woven baskets to house tools or an array of vases ready for fresh flowers.

Lighting

Incorporating lighting is another great way of adding depth into the space, as well creating a multi-purpose atmosphere. Battery-operated LED string lights add a warming ambience for the early evening, while portable table lamps offer both form and function.

As the trend for people to invest more - time and money - into their living spaces continues to grow, we anticipate seeing even more creative uses and styling of greenhouses. Coloured greenhouses are here to stay and make a style statement, so naturally owners are then keen to ensure the insides are curated just as purposefully.”
