Houseplants suited for every room 

Choosing the right houseplant for each room is simple when considering natural light and environment. In shadier spaces in bedrooms and bathrooms, low-maintenance plants like snake plants, ZZ plants, peace lilies and trailing ivy thrive with minimal light while still adding impact. Areas with bright, indirect light, including living rooms and home offices, are well suited to plants such as calathea, philodendron, orchids, umbrella trees and Boston ferns, creating a lush and balanced feel. To keep it looking its best, remove any yellow leaves as they naturally mature, and feed once a month during spring and summer using a half-strength general-purpose plant feed. Water when the top two inches of compost feel dry, taking care not to overwater, and reduce watering during the winter months to maintain healthy growth. 

Aloe Vera

The Aloe Vera plant is a simple and practical addition to any indoor space, well suited to bright rooms with plenty of light and temperatures above 14ºC. Ideal in a pot size of 13cm or larger, it’s easy to care for with just a few key steps. For even growth, rotate the plant every couple of weeks as it naturally grows towards the light. Feed once a month during spring and summer with a succulent and cacti plant feed, and water only when the compost has completely dried out, taking care not to let it sit in water. Watering should be paused entirely between November and March to help maintain healthy roots. 

Butterfly Palm

The Butterfly Palm is a vibrant, easy-care plant that brings a soft, tropical feel to indoor spaces. Best suited to bright light and room temperatures between 18–25°C. To keep it healthy, water when the top two inches of compost feel dry and reduce watering during the winter months. This plant enjoys humid conditions, making bathrooms an ideal home, or you can mist the leaves once a week to maintain moisture. Feed once a month during spring and summer with a good quality general-purpose plant feed, and remove any browning or crisping leaf tips, which may occur due to cold draughts or dry air, by gently snipping them off.
