A restful bedroom doesn't have to mean stripping everything back to neutrals. Colour and pattern can create a space that feels every bit as calm and restorative, provided they're used with purpose. The secret is to begin with a balanced palette of two or three complementary shades, then repeat those colours across the room to create rhythm and cohesion. When colour is echoed in artwork, upholstery and accessories, the room feels considered and effortlessly relaxing.
Pattern works in much the same way. Rather than introducing lots of unrelated prints, choose a small collection of designs that share a common colour palette and layer them in different scales. An upholstered headboard, statement cushions and a coordinating fabric on an occasional chair can add personality without overwhelming the space. Pair these expressive elements with quieter backdrops, natural textures and soft lighting to give the eye somewhere to rest. The result is a bedroom that's rich in character yet still feels like a true sanctuary at the end of the day.
