Woodchip and Magnolia

SEPT 20—23
STAND 10.45 HALL 10

Fashion and textiles designer, Pearl Lowe, is extending her creative repertoire with the launch of her debut wallpaper and fabric collection, in an exclusive partnership with British wallpaper company, Woodchip & Magnolia.

The former singer/song writer
, dress designer, author, and all-round vintage style queen, is to unveil her collection during London Design Fair (Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, EC1) and features unique, vintage inspired wallpapers, wall murals and luxury velvet upholstery fabrics.

Unmistakeably ‘Pearl’ in style – the new designs reflect her life-long passion for vintage, faded glamour, heritage prints, flapper-girl decadence and country house opulence –all mashed up with a smattering of pure rock n’ roll!

Collaborating with burgeoning Lancashire based wallpaper and textile company, Woodchip & Magnolia, each design has been originally hand-painted or traditionally lino cut, manufactured in-house using high definition, digital print technology.
Woodchip & Magnolia is a family owned business, headed by designer, Nina Tarnowski, who boasts over 20 years at the leading edge of British textile design and production.

Commenting on the collection, Pearl said: “I’m so excited to be launching my own textile range! I’ve been designing these prints in my head for years, drawing on the many influences in my life. It really is a dream come true for me!
“The designs are an eclectic mix
of vintage inspired florals, geometric prints and classic animal prints, which I hope people will love as much as I do!”

The collection – in her own words:

Dawn Chorus - Vintage Bird Floral wallpaper

“There’s something very soothing about Birds. I live in the countryside, so I’m surrounded by nature, and that’s what ultimately inspires me daily. This design was based on some lovely old vintage fabric I had stored in a suitcase! I love the exotic, slightly whimsical look of the bird, with its tropical, flamboyant plumage

Wisteria wallpaper – “Wysteria”

“I only really
realised how beautiful wisteria was, when we bought a house along a river a few years ago. The wisteria came out in May and it was the most enchanting thing I ever saw. So to be able to put it in a wallpaper or a fabric is a dream.”

Va Va Frome - Botanical Leaf
“Botanicals are so popular in interiors, and this one is so pretty and fresh. It’s another take on the lushness of palm and fern leaves, but like our bird floral, the leaf is imaginary and has a timeless, vintage quality to it, which I adore. I’d love to see this design in my own bathroom or hallway – or both! I literally cannot wait to put them up!”
Ditsy Floral

“This design is so very me!  I love these sorts of pretty, small-scale, delicate florals. I’m a very feminine lady, I only ever wear dresses. I use them when I’m designing dresses, and now they have found themselves in my wallpapers and fabrics!”

Betsy Fan

“I’ve always loved art deco inspired style, in all its forms. During my days in a band, I wore my hair in a sharp bob like the 1920s actress, Louise Brooks – a cut my daughter Daisy now has too! It’s about timeless, classic glamour, the Jazz Age, decadence
and luxury.”

Leopard print velvet – “Rapture”

“Well, I think anyone who knows my style knows I love leopard print! I used to love Debbie Harry and was totally inspired by that inimitable mix of glamour and rebellion. I once saw a picture of her wearing a leopard print coat, and from then on, my love affair with leopard print began. It sounds like a cliché, but I’ve really struggled to find the perfect leopard print in a velvet, so to create my own is wonderful.
“I love mixing leopard prints with florals and tartan, throwing everything together. I supposed leopard prints remind me of my music days. I still have a bit of rock-n-roll in me!”
Snakeskin print velvet – “Love Her Madly”

leopard, snakeskin will always be a classic print for me, which seems to transcend fads or trends. Again, snakeskins remind me of my hedonist music days, and I think throwing it in with everything else works beautifully. I had this wonderful vintage snakeskin 20s bag, which I sadly lost, but I guess the memory of it is kind of captured here.
“I’m planning to use my animal prints as curtains in my own home, and I literally cannot wait!”
