How to create a spooky Halloween doorway, with Dobbies

This Halloween, Dobbies Garden Centres is giving its tips on how you can give your front door a spooktacular makeover, perfect for greeting any ghoulish guests or setting the scene for a haunted house party.

Dobbies’ Stylist, Rebecca Stanton, outlines how you can recreate the garden centre’s eerie Halloween doorscape on a budget using fang-tastic décor and a touch of DIY magic for a bewitching display that’s full of charm and chills.

Rebecca says: “This year, it’s all about layering textures and lighting. Start by framing your doorway with glowing decorations or string lights draped overhead to add a dramatic effect after dark. Twinkling pumpkins hanging from above add height and interest and a light-up broomstick perched against your doorway will give your entrance a unique touch.

“To really make your Halloween décor come alive, mix different light up elements to create an all-round eerie glow. Scatter light-up pumpkins, novelty figures and LED lanterns across steps and window ledges to lead trick-or-treaters to your door, and don’t be afraid to combine warm, cool, and colourful lights. Unlike Christmas when it’s recommended to stick to a colour scheme with lighting, it’s fun to mix it up at Halloween because the more eclectic the glow, the more enchanting the effect.

“You can add a touch of warmth to your display by playing into some of the more natural autumn textures and tones. Crates stacked with pumpkins and seasonal foliage will bring layers of autumnal character to your doorway while adding height. Mixing in these natural elements with traditional Halloween props like skeleton hands will give your doorway a rich, styled look while bringing the fright factor.

“To really personalise your doorway, keep an eye out for pieces that add a unique touch. Dobbies’ LED decorations and novelty lights offer fun and cost-effective ways to decorate with minimal fuss, and you can play around with their styling to really make your doorway your own. And, if you only buy one thing this year to make an impact, consider a spooky door knocker – these really make an impression and help set a frightfully fun tone. It’s the little touches that bring your décor to life so have fun creating a display you love.
