Curate your own wild dining Christmas tablescape this festive season

Caption below

Festive decorations are no longer solely reserved for the Christmas tree. Instead, nods to the yuletide season can now be felt throughout the entire home with the latest trend of tablescaping providing the perfect place for incorporating your chosen holiday theme this year.

This Christmas, with the chance for friends and family to reunite, it’s time to shake up our dining tables by transforming them into something unrecognisable with a chic, curated tablescape.

Dobbies Stylist, Rebecca Stanton, commented: “Christmas 2021 is set to be extra special and tablescaping can really add to the occasion.

“Photographs of families gathering around the Christmas table throughout the ages really do last for years, so tablescaping a different theme each year can really help define the time. If you scroll through Instagram you can find a whole range of different tablescapes, from minimalist looks to extravagant scenes. The beauty of tablescaping is that you can add your own creative flair to really make it your own.”

One of Dobbies’ key themes for 2021 is ‘Mystical Woodland’, inspired by a walk through the forest at dawn, with an early morning winter colour palette of dark green and hints of deep rust. By using this theme as a basis for a tablescape you can create a Scandi inspired, ‘wild dining’ look, which brings the outdoors in by utilising rich greens, anthracite and rust to create a modern, understated yet cosy festive feel.

Rebecca adds: “I love a stylish approach – there’s no reason why dining outside can’t be as chic as your plans for inside.

“Add layers and warmth with blankets, faux firs and cushions. Make the most of the lighting, with festoons draped across the dining area and fairy lights on trees, fences and plants. This will add an element of cool and another layer of warmth.

“It is the setting that will really bring your dinner party alive – revamp your all-year-round service with baubles on the place settings and, of course, plenty of fresh greenery and foliage in vases and on the table instantly give a magical feeling. Candle sticks and tea lights placed along the table gives the perfect finishing touch.”

If you’re not ready to give up on summer yet, the Ananas in Corsica, otherwise known as the pineapple plant, is a great way to add a tropical flair to your interiors this autumn. This attractive plant has been growing in popularity recently, and for good reason. Who wouldn’t want to grow a pineapple in their home? The spiky leaves and unique look will add character to any room. Style it atop an on-trend bar cart in your lounge for an exotic design

The Aglaonema is a striking plant which makes the perfect addition to your lounge or home office and can be styled on its own for a touch of greenery, or with other plants for maximum impact. The Zamioculcas Zamiifolia, also known as the ZZ plant, is another plant that looks great in a group thanks to its height and textured leaves. The ZZ plant is easy to care for and thrives in cool conditions and low light, making it great for Autumn.

To keep your plants thriving this season, make sure you mist them frequently to replenish moisture lost when you turn your heating on, and don’t worry if your houseplants lose their leaves over the next few months. New growth will appear in the spring and your houseplants will be full once more.
