Garden centre unveils houseplant range for 2026

At the beginning of the year, our homes can often feel a little quieter and less colourful, making it the perfect time to reintroduce freshness with houseplants. From adding life back into empty corners to creating calming green spaces throughout the home, houseplants offer an easy way to refresh interiors for the year ahead.

Whether you’re looking to embrace the benefits of air-purifying plants, make a statement with larger varieties, or style small plants together for an eye-catching display, Dobbies’ latest houseplant collections for the new year starts from just £10.

January is also National Houseplant Month, dedicated to promoting the benefits of indoor greenery. Dobbies’ Senior Plant Buyer, Claire Bishop, shares her top houseplant picks for the new year, along with advice on how to use greenery to enhance your home.

Air purifying plants

Claire says that the start of a new year is the perfect time to refresh your home with houseplants that bring both beauty and wellbeing benefits. The Spathiphyllum, or peace lily, is an ideal choice for anyone looking to make a simple but impactful update. With its elegant white blooms and glossy green leaves, it instantly brightens a space and creates a calm, uplifting atmosphere.

Known for its air-purifying qualities, the peace lily helps remove toxins from the air, making it a great plant to include in your new year reset. Claire notes that it’s also easy to care for, requiring little day-to-day maintenance, which makes it a practical option for those looking to introduce more greenery into their home without added effort.

Large plants for impact

Claire says that large houseplants are the perfect way to fill the space left by your Christmas tree and decorations in January. Statement plants, such as the Monstera, are ideal for filling empty corners and open spaces, and will add structure and interest to rooms.

With its dramatic, glossy leaves, the Monstera not only brings a striking aesthetic but also offers air-purifying benefits. This plant will grow vigorously in bright indirect light – especially when fed throughout the summer months – so Claire notes that its growth can be supported with a moss pole to encourage stability. As this is a jungle plant, the Monstera enjoys humidity, so Claire recommends keeping it away from drying heat sources.

To elevate the look further, Claire suggests pairing your Monstera with the Dypsis, or parlour palm. The contrast in height and texture between these larger plants will help create an interesting, layered display, while also bringing a fresh, uplifting feel to your home for the new year. Despite its large size, the Dypsis is a relatively low maintenance plant. Claire notes that it thrives in bright, indirect light and only needs occasional watering, making it an easy way to make a statement with greenery this January.

Create a green display

Claire says that styling a selection of smaller plants together can create an eye-catching jungle effect, turning even compact spaces into a statement plant moment. Ferns, peace lilies and trailing ivy work particularly well when grouped as their varying leaf shapes and textures add depth and interest, while the addition of Spanish moss will soften the overall look with a relaxed, natural feel.

Claire notes that many of these plants also offer practical benefits, from improving air quality to helping create a brighter, more uplifting atmosphere at the start of the year. Claire suggests positioning them in bright, indirect light and watering when the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch to keep them thriving throughout 2026.
