Description
This cast bronze vase is a reproduction of a 'hu' wine vessel. The originals dated from as far back as the Shang dynasty (1600 - 1045 BC) and were thought to be used in rituals, placed in the grave an ancestor to ensure a good relationship with the ancestor's spirit. The wide body, narrow neck and ring handles at the sides were common to this type of piece and the vases are etched with ancient Chinese calligraphy.
