This Flat Fenix fronted 18mm Birch Ply bespoke kitchen was designed and made by Higham Furniture, working in collaboration with Plaice Architects, for a contemporary rear house extension to a 1950s property in Ipswich, Suffolk.
With black panelled glazing and doors connecting the kitchen to the garden to match the original Crittall® windows at the front of the house, the Fenix coloured cabinetry in Nero Ingo 0720 is the perfect partner, bringing a thoroughly modern aesthetic to the Birch Ply 15mm Lacquered Oak Veneered furniture.
Expertly crafted at Higham’s own factory in Denmead, Hampshire, the design has a contemporary, minimalist look with Nordic and modern influences. It also features Oak Inset floating plinths and circular routed cabinet handles.
The clients wanted the modern look as well as a sustainable solution. The plywood cabinets are crafted from premium quality FSC-certified timber and carbon-neutral Fenix NTM laminate.
Perfect for dining and entertaining, the central island has a 30mm Q-Stone marble-effect worktop in Cashmere, supplied by Bespoke Stone, with waterfall edging and matching material in the sink area for the worktop and splashback.
The island includes storage drawers on the cooking side and a built-in BORA X Pure surface induction cooktop with integrated extractor. Behind it, the cooking tower features a Neff combination microwave and Slide&Hide® single pyrolytic oven.
To the right of the cooking tower and the left of the Pyramis Astris double bowl brushed stainless steel sink with PRO3 Flex stainless steel Quooker boiling water tap is a fully integrated Neff dishwasher hidden behind the cabinet door. The cabinet to the right of the sink conceals wastebins and to the right, at the end of the run, is a tall integrated Neff larder fridge.
Floor-to-ceiling cupboards to the right, out of sight, contain a two-door larder on the left with a built-in undercounter Neff freezer on the right, and additional larder storage above.
The Chez Pitou Black Wood & Woven Cane bar stools are from Rockett St George while the Larger Polly pendant lights in antique brass with alabaster shade are by Pooky.
Warm and tactile with clean lines and impactful finish, this kitchen is a perfect example of how contemporary design brings something unique and different to the English countryside.
