Description
DeepL TranslateStunning Ercol day bed from the 355 range, England circa 1960s, fitted with brand new teal blue upholstered cushions on fresh foam. Functions as both sofa and single bed with fixed angled backrest for comfortable lounging.
The curved elm backrest mounts securely, creating a comfortable reclined position. Windsor-style spindle arms curve around from the seat frame with turned sticks socketed into the rails. Solid elm throughout with mortise and tenon joinery connecting the tapered legs to the seat frame – proper construction that’s built to last.
Original elastic webbing platform remains intact and in great condition. The cushions feature durable teal blue fabric over new high-density foam.
Frame fully restored and structurally sound. Very good condition overall – the elm shows natural patina and color variation across different sections where it’s weathered over sixty years, plus very light surface marks to the frame and arms as visible in photos. A statement piece that works equally well as everyday seating or occasional guest bed.
Ercol was founded in 1920 by Lucian Ercolani in High Wycombe. The company became known for Windsor-inspired furniture using traditional steam-bending techniques and mortise-and-tenon joinery. Their 1960s studio couches combined functionality with signature construction methods.
