Description
DeepL TranslateShanxi, circa 1860
This lovely, long display table would make a wonderful, statement console today in a hallway, living or dining room. It is made from elm wood, with the top extended surface made using a single elm plank. The table would originally have been used as an altar table in China's Shanxi province, with offerings to ancestors placed on the surface. The original finish has been stripped back to reveal the pale, natural colour of the wood with its deep, distinctive grain. The legs are supported with double stretchers at the sides and fit through a shaped apron to the front and rear into the thick table top. A unique piece that is narrow enough to fit into most spaces as an unusual console.
