French Bedroom, the female-founded furniture brand renowned for its timeless feminine French style, is delighted to unveil its newest collection, Clair de Lune.

Taking its name from Claude Debussy’s iconic musical masterpiece, the Clair de Lune design was inspired by the discovery of a timeworn chest at an antique market in the south of France. As with many of French Bedroom’s collections, a single evocative piece served as the muse that inspired a timeless 12-piece collection.

Consisting of beds, chests, bedside tables and accessories, each piece is lovingly hand-crafted from natural materials, celebrating the warmth and charm of wood, alongside the skill of artisanal craft. Featuring a mild distemper finish reminiscent of antique furniture, the natural finish will encourage the wood to age with elegance.

This sense of history is balanced with a nod to contemporary style. The beds in the Clair de Lune collection feature softly curved headboards, a subtle reference to the curves of female form, characterised in French furniture, these gentle curves lend a romantic softness to the solid wood.

From the delicately decorated chest of drawers, to the nightstand, the finial bed, the rattan bed and the console table, each piece in the collection shares the same hand-carved design language. Thoughtful design touches include floral fretwork brass drawer handles, pearl beadings that frame the drawer fronts, luxurious tasselled carvings on the corners of the furniture to emulate ornamental French silk tassels, all finished with a hint of distemper to enhance the grain in the wood. 

The Clair de Lune Collection is made from Bayur wood, an indigenous and sustainable mahogany from Indonesia that grows in regulated and certified forests to ensure responsible foresting practices. Timeless in design and quality in materials, when treated with care, each piece will offer generational joy. 

Reflecting on the collection, Georgia Metcalfe, Founder and Creative Director of French Bedroom, says:

“We designed the Clair de Lune Collection to be all about thoughtful versatility; many of the 12 pieces within the collection can be used in multiple ways; when paired with the wall mirror the console table can also be used as a dressing table, the stool can double as a bedside table and the ornate finials on the beds are removable and interchangeable so you can create a 4-poster bed with low, medium, or high posts to suit your space. This creative approach allowed us to reduce waste by making the customisable elements from the same piece of wood, increasing choice and longevity, and evolving with you and your home over time.”
