About
In the beginning there was a bed. French Bedroom was born in May 2006 by Georgia Metcalfe whilst shopping for a French bed for her 30th birthday.
French Bedroom's collections of French furniture, contemporary lighting and quirky accessories are for those who want a bit of sassy French style in their bedroom.
Born out of a fascination of French designs, textures, craftsmanship, heritage, and history, the collections are fun and feminine - with quality at the core. Beautifully made French designs combine with quirky and contemporary lighting and accessories to create interiors that are eye-catching, elegant, inspiring, chic and most importantly, unique!
The design team draw inspiration from everywhere: a peony in bloom, a great work of art, ruffles on lingerie, a colour - and even the female body! Everything makes us tick and we love to mix up colours and textures to create beautiful and unusual furniture, lighting and accessories that make a statement and start a conversation.
Thank you for choosing French Bedroom xx

Press Release | A Style History of Chinoiserie
A History of Art & Interiors
Originating from the French 'chinois', meaning Chinese, chinoiserie has had a profound influence on interior design, decorative art, architecture and furniture for centuries.
In the 18th century travel opened up to the East, and Chinese designs came west, influencing the interiors of the wealthy and well-travelled.
A timeless design steeped in history and cultural folklore with a strong emphasis on visual design, it's not hard to see why French Bedroom embraces this style.
The emergence of chinoiserie designs coincided with the French Revolution.
As an antidote to the severity of this time, the whimsical scenes depicted by decorative chinoiserie were blended into textiles, and so toile designs were born.
Style toile and chinoiserie with a balanced mix of classic and contemporary.
Pair intricate chinoiserie designs with crisp white furniture, and delicate toile with solid oak pieces. Work in pops of colour, textured rugs, and considered lighting.
Classic, timeless, and used by designers for centuries.
