DeepL TranslateTurn your garden into a summer festival with these beautiful vibrant, long-lasting blooms. Dahlias bring energy and excitement to beds, borders, and containers. Dahlias bloom from mid-summer to the first frost, and are brilliant choice if you enjoy cut flowers throughout the season.
Planting location: Beds, borders or in patio pots
Soil moisture: Moist & well drained
Flowering period: July - October, Planting period: May - June
Plant in a sunny spot. Remove the tuber from the bag of compost and soak it in water for 3-4 hours. Dig soil improver and bonemeal into the planting hole before planting. Position the tuber in the hole spreading the roots out, so that the top of the crown is level with the soil surface. Replace soil around the crown, firm in and water well. Do not attempt to plant these bulbs if the ground is frozen or during freezing conditions. Remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. Water well during dry spells. When foliage has died back, usually after the first frost, cut stems back to 5cm above soil level. Not winter hardy. To over-winter, dig up the tubers and store them in a cool, dry and frost-free place. Replant in the same way next year.
