Description

The pure minimalist Timesphere wall clock was designed in 2002 by Gideon Dagan for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). A seemingly gravity-resistant ball floats around the dial of this spectacular clock and displays the time. The stunning rather magic effect is achieved by a rotating magnetic mechanism which holds and moves the red ball. A high-torque precision quartz movement ensures the accurate time indication.
The MoMa Timesphere wall clock demonstrates how time can be displayed playfully in a new aesthetic.
It also shows us that in our hectic times, it is sometimes appropriate to show the quiet passage of time without pretending to be overly accurate.
MoMA has a long history of documenting clocks from the modern era and exhibiting them in the museum's permanent collection.
