The fun and lovable character Herdy is the face of the popular Lake District based lifestyle, gift and home brand created in 2007 by designers Spencer and Diane Hannah.

The birthplace of British cultural icons from Wordsworth to Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit, Herdy continues the tradition of unique characters from the UNESCO World Heritage acclaimed landscape, to delight, inspire and entertain the world.

Inspired by the region’s Herdwick sheep that roam free on its high fells, Herdy has a simple mission to make customers smile through its quirky feel-good products.

Herdy can be found online at Herdy.com, at its five Lake District stores in Kendal, Ambleside, Bowness, Grasmere and Keswick, and in hundreds of other stores across the UK, United States, New Zealand and Japan.

Farming Support

In 2010, Herdy established a co-operative of small family-owned Herdwick fell farmers to help raise visibility and champion the breed.

Buying wool direct from these farms at fairly-traded rates was an early example of the move to new traceability and ethical standards.

By 2017 this direct link to the farmers that inspired the character, enabled Herdy to launch HerdySleep – a collection of mattresses and bedding that brings all the benefits of sustainably-sourced natural wool to aid restful and restorative sleep.

In 2022, Diane and Spencer’s work to support Herdwick farmers led to them being granted the freedom of the City of London through induction into the ancient guild of the Worshipful Company of Woolmen.

Herdy Fund

Social purpose is central to Herdy, and through its charitable Herdy Fund gives back to the Lake District and its communities, helping preserve the Herdwick breed, and the Lake District’s upland fell farming communities.

Herdy’s achievements locally, nationally and internationally to support friendship, family and community also continues to grow and evolve.

To date, Herdy has donated over £200,000 with a portion of profits donated to community causes. The Herdy Fund is an official charitable fund of the Cumbria Community Foundation.
