Description

This fabulous cocktail cabinet is a stunning piece of 1930s furniture. It has a simple elegance that we love, with its beautiful scalloped detailing along the base. This cabinet just oozes class with its gorgeous Art Deco style. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find true 1930s cocktail cabinets, so we were absolutely thrilled to find this very stylish example. We're sure this has seen some incredible parties in the era of the flapper, the Charleston and Jazz!!
We knew straight away this would look stunning in a dark, inky, blue. We created a custom blend of 3 colours of Fusion Mineral Paint; Midnight Blue, Liberty Blue and Coal Black. This deep blue looks so striking. We chose to adorn the scalloped base with 23ct gold leaf - which works perfectly with the dark blue. As a nod to the age of the cabinet, we have antiqued and distressed the gold leaf, as we didn't want this to look too pristine and new. The handles on the cabinet were not original and didn't look right at all. We managed to source some vintage 1930s handles and are so pleased with how they look - much more in keeping with the style of handle it would have had originally. These have been painted with Posh Chalk Byzantine gold pigments and antiqued with glaze. We have used gold gilding wax on the hinges and escutcheon, and again, have aged these slightly. The cabinet has been sealed with a satin varnish inside and out to give added sheen and protection.
The top door, when pulled down, reveals a mirrored section, with 2 mirrors - one along the back of the cabinet and the other on the back of the door. There is plenty of space here for your glasses and bar accessories. The original cocktail stirrer holders are intact, though the stirrers themselves were missing, so we have sourced new ones. The mirror along the back of the cabinet has some age related marks, silvering and foxing - but these are not excessive. The mirror on the back of the door was not in poor condition, so we have had new mirror glass cut to replace this. We have painted the inside a beautiful soft teal colour, with blue borders, again using Fusion Mineral Paint.
The cupboard area below is also painted in soft teal and contains ready cut out bottle holders on the base and a fixed shelf. There is also some storage space on the base, in front of the bottle holders. The door on the left has catches inside, top and bottom, to secure the door. The right door lock works and we have had 2 new keys cut for it. On the inside of the right door there is the original maker's metal tag, 'Quality Furniture, A Record Product".
