About

Hello.  We are a London-based design studio re-imagining the archive of legendary designer Florence Broadhurst for the modern interior.

Florence Broadhurst was an extraordinary person and an extraordinary designer.   Charismatic, flamboyant, fearless and eccentric, she lived a colourful life of self reinvention, travelling the world and changing her name, her appearance and even her voice to take on a variety of different personas.  The 1920s took her to the Far East as the showgirl 'Bobby Broadhurst' before she became a Bond Street based 'French' couturier, 'Madame Pellier', in 1930s London.  Through the 1960s and 70s, back in her native Australia, she created over 500 incredible wallpaper and textile designs which were highly sought after all over the globe, including by the likes of Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Tragically, her prolific period of design came to an abrupt end in 1977 when she was murdered in her design studio in Sydney.

But Florence's legacy lives on.  Our imaginative and modern interpretation of her designs brings new life to her incredible archive.  The patterns are truly authentic, being derived from scans of Florence's original silk screens.  Florence loved to layer pattern and, taking her lead, our ranges are curated imaginatively to enable creative layering of designs and colourways - many of our products have complementary 'companions' that can be used together in the same space to stunning effect.

With the resurgence of colour and pattern in the interiors world, and an increasing desire for authentic, heritage products, we believe that Florence's designs are as relevant today as they were when she crafted them. Our collections are curated to be as diverse and eclectic as the archive is.  We aim always to be true to Florence and to capture her love of pattern and colour.  We are honoured to be following in her footsteps.

We'd love to tell you more, so do get in touch if you would like to know more about Florence's fascinating story or about our collections.

Horses Stampede

____________________________________________

An iconic design from Florence's archive, Horses Stampede was undoubtedly influenced by Florence's love of horses and horse racing. This love was rooted in Florence's humble beginnings in the Australian outback where her family kept horses, later evolving into a love of horse racing during her glamorous life as a socialite in 1970s Sydney.  Florence even owned her own racehorse called Petals!

We have applied Horses Stampede to soft cotton poplin to create a collection of beautiful accessories for the bedroom.  It also appears on a useful everyday tote bag and cosmetic pouch, both made from unbleached organic cotton.

Japanese Floral

Occasional bench

Japanese Floral is one of Florence's most iconic designs, heavily influenced by her Far East travels in the 1920s. Exotic landscapes from this period are clearly evident in her designs; we can imagine Japanese Floral originating from her time exploring the tea gardens of the orient.

Made by hand in the UK with 100% cotton upholstery, black hairpin legs add a midcentury feel to our occasional bench which is perfect for adding a pop of pattern to a room or a handy place to perch in a hallway.

Available in 6 colourways: Black, Mustard, Burnt Orange, Navy, Deep Pink, Grass

This bench is also available to order in bespoke sizes and colourways.

Florence's Japanese Floral design can also be found on our cushions, wallpaper and fabric by the metre.
