About

“My love affair with wool is never-ending.

It started as an intriguing friendship when, at university, I was first introduced to its magic. As often happens, the friendship developed into a tentative romance, as the delicious possibilities of weaving and textile design were laid out before me. After university, during my time as textile designer with a well – established company, this fledgling love took flight. Breathless, I realised that I was in the throes of an enduring passion.”

With extensive experience in the textile industry Jurate (“Jacky”) Jakstaite has been designing and selling her own products in the UK and overseas since 2012. Each year she draws inspiration from her new-found home environment of Great Britain as well as from her experiences working for other well-established, overseas textile companies to create fresh, fun additions to her collection.

Jurate has a longstanding relationship with trusted manufacturers in her native Lithuania who carefully and skilfully bring her designs to life in either pure wool or blends of wool and cotton. New relationships with UK manufacturers are also beginning to take flight.

The products are stocked by many independent businesses all over the UK, as well as by some larger retailers and are exported as far overseas as Japan. The blankets and throws have also been keeping customers cosy in hotels and on many outdoor café and wine bar terraces. The products make very special corporate gifts and bespoke designs are also possible (minimum order applies). The wool fashion lines are available exclusively through the J.J. Textile website, where you can also purchase any of the beautiful products on offer direct from the designer.

You are welcome to browse the collection and appreciate the quality and joy of these lovingly-crafted, enchanting designs; discover something new and enter in to the J.J. Textile philosophy of ‘happy living in the woollen world’!

The Wonder of Wool

The Wonder of Wool

At J.J. Textile, wool is our livelihood, but it is so much more than that.

So let us tell you a little more about wool and debunk some of the myths along the way.

To begin with it is incredibly robust to work with. It’s hard wearing yet soft. You have to remember sheep have to endure a multitude of conditions, from rain lashing down, strong winds and then to the warmer months where the heat is blazing down. This is what  gives wool its insulating qualities. The structure of wool has evolved so it naturally keeps you warm during the cold and cooler in the summer. It is this same structure that makes wool durable. It may cost more than synthetic materials but it will last so much longer. So it is total value for money.

Wool has a reputation for being itchy.

This is a not a total myth but it would totally depend on the environment in which the sheep reside and the coarseness associated with that particular breed of sheep. Our sheep provide the softest wool which just feels so great on the skin. Did you know actual wool allergies are extremely rare?

Wool is safer too. It is naturally flame retardant and is the best choice for bedding.

It's also used in  clothing and organizations for the very fact it is a safer material. The truth is this fibrous material is simply amazing.

When you receive your wool product, you may be surprised that it has a smell. Again, this is a natural resource from a beautiful animal. Sheep produces a substance known as lanolin through their sebaceous glands. This is a wax like substance that gives the wool a protective coating. It actually has a sweet, metallic yet sour smell. It is not the same smell that you would get from an actual sheep living on a farm though. Throughout the process of creating our designs, we ensure our wool is washed thoroughly and does not use any harmful chemicals or dyes. So, all in all, it's a fully natural process!! A slight smell is a very small price to pay for something so organically intrinsic and can always be removed by airing your product outside on a couple of breezy days.

Taking care for your product could never be easier. Wool absorbs moisture which prevents bacteria from even forming. When your product first arrives, remember, it has already been treated using biodegradable detergents. So there is no need to wash. It may be several months before you even have to care for your product, but if you do need to wash then always use a WOOL or SOFT setting cycle on your washing machine. Use a special detergent designed for wool and then hang out to dry.

Finally, the most appreciated wonder of wool is feeling so comforted when snuggling under it. Wrap yourself up in a blanket and you will automatically feel much more settled. This is because wool has self-regulating temperature properties. So it is ideal for when you want to take that well earned rest.

2021 Collection Launch

Welcome to the 2021 Collection!

For our designer, Jurate Jakstaite, inspiration is everywhere, especially during the change of seasons. Like in Spring, when everything awakens, where nature is recalled as new born lambs take their first steps and freshly open buds first catch our eye.

There is Summer, where everything slows down and you can either bask in the sun or find a shaded retreat. Autumn is full of russet tones as you amble through the park, kicking leaves. All the way through to Winter, where wrapping up warm and enjoying life’s comforts are simply a must.

Our latest collection is suitable for all seasons and is a reminder of things that inspire us. From an exotic landscape to pictures in short stories, proving there are patterns in life all around us. We connect to these and we then furnish our homes accordingly, surrounding ourselves with items that are pleasing to the eye and the touch.

Missing Travel

Through pretty much all of 2020 and up to this moment, travel and the great outdoors have both been largely off limits. So, we decided to take our designs gently into the exotic and into the wild, drawing upon influences from patterns that naturally occur from life inhabiting our planet.

We have 100% Pure Wool Throws with instantly recognizable designs that people simply can’t resist falling in love with. Our designs are reminiscent of dry heat, sunshine and dappled shade, capturing a safari-inspired feel to give any room a boost. With a fringed edge and as with all our throws, fully reversible. They are available in neutral browns and very soft greys. A luxurious finishing touch for any chair or sofa.

Floral Designs

Floral designs have always been a massive influence when depicting nature. From our designer’s homeland, the fern flower is embraced and steeped in Lithuanian tradition. It represents wealth and happiness and is supposed to only appear on the 23rd and 24th of June during the celebration of the summer solstice.

Here we have our beautiful 100% Pure Wool Throws, depicting fronds, to create a beautiful pattern backdrop. These are certainly eye catching and instantly create thoughts of shaded wildlife. They appear in differing tones of green and grey highlighting their texture and arrangement and are finished with an elegant fringed edge. Wool has a natural insulating ability so they will keep you cool throughout the day and warm on an evening. Perfect for a secluded feel in a conservatory.

Small flowers, in their early stages, are always a pleasure to see. A scattering can liven up a field or garden. They are a true sign that the seasons have gone full circle. There is a fragility and softness that makes them a perfect addition to this collection. Woven from 100% Pure Wool, our Throws are delicately decorated on a backdrop of soft pastel shades of pink, blue, yellow and grey.

You can even invert them to match different décor in your home. For our designer, they are a reminder of once walking along a countryside path in Cornwall. Ideal to keep you warm and cosy in bed or outside when the chill of the night draws in.

The Little Prince

“But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.”

– The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

But it is truly ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry that entwines nature with story. It is a much-loved tale and has been bought to life over the years with so many pieces of iconic artwork. What better way is there than to pay tribute through design that will feature as a highlight in someone’s home. Our beautiful 100% Pure Wool Throws depict the fox and the rose under the moon and stars. They have inverted colours on the other side and with elegantly fringed edges. This throw provides much happiness as it is unfolded over the end of a bed.

The Fox and the Rose Throw – Dimensions 130 x 190 cm (51 x 75 in)

We are all inspired by the stories we are told, especially as a child.  A parent reading a bed time story is always a cherished memory and we have conveyed this special moment with the stars and hearts decorating our 100% Pure Wool Throws with fringed trim. We have the red and cream warmth of the hearts to the blues and greys of a starry night. The stars are also available as plush cushion covers, in 100% Pure Wool, to match. Once again, they come in blue and soft greys, they are all inverted on their other side and have a handy zip closure for easy washing. They are all simply effective and perfect to adorn any bedroom. Imagine snuggling up to one as you drift off to sleep.
