A globe of the world is an endlessly fascinating piece. An unusual ornament or centerpiece equally at ease in the study, living room, hallway or bedroom, it is a home accessory which is not only decorative but absorbing and informative.
Lander & May is an artisan globemaking company based in Cowes, making globes in the time-honoured traditional way, as they were made hundreds of years ago. Each globe is individually handmade, beginning with a rigid papier mache sphere which is then finely plastered and sanded for a smooth, robust finish. Printed map artwork is meticulously hand applied, sealed, varnished and then the globe is combined with bespoke metal work and a turned wooden stand, to produce a stunning finished product.
The Modern Day Classic Globe features a totally up to date map of the world including current country names and modern boundaries, compiled by Lander & May using NASA satellite imagery. A piece which combines modern cartographic data with the sophisticated styling and integrity of a handmade piece - a million miles away from the mass produced plastic globes prevalent today.
As an exciting addition, the Modern Day Classic Globe can also be customised to detail a client's own travels - routes are illustrated directly on to the map artwork along with any other details desired - a mode of transport icon, dates of travel, meaningful locations, etc., plus a personal cartouche; making it a unique memento or gift.
