Welcome to the norsu interiors Press Office
Not so long ago, three friends were brought together in business by an elephant. It was ceramic, covered in spots and contained a small slot on its perfectly rounded back in which a child could place his coins. The elephant moneybox was a gift from one dear friend to another before the birth of her first child. Upon receiving the much loved treasure, the soon to be mother placed it along with the famous aqua bag it was preciously wrapped in, on the crisp white bookshelf in her baby’s nursery. It was only upon leaving the room, taking one glance back at the evolving nursery, that she was struck by the way in which the vibrant aqua bag tied in perfectly with the original 1920s aqua tiles that lined the feature fireplace in the corner of the room. This is it, she mused. This is the colour palate for my little boy’s nursery. After much research, countless hours spent online and trawling local art suppliers, she was no closer to finding "that piece" for her baby’s wall. When another dear friend offered to source a piece of artwork from Finland that would be "perfect" for the space, imagine her surprise when it featured a large, whimsical, perfectly ‘aqua’ elephant...An omen, she thought? Perhaps! This is the story of how Kristy Sadlier, Nat Wheeler and Treah Cosgriff founded norsu interiors. Born of a mutual obsession of beautiful things and a true love of Scandinavian design, norsu is an online boutique showcasing some of Scandinavia and Europe’s most talented and unique designers of homewares and wall art. Whilst norsu evolves, the trio remain true to their ethos, which is to provide Australian customers with unique, rare and beautiful brands sourced from famously ‘on trend’ Scandinavian countries. Collectively, Kristy, Nat and Treah have four children under the age of three and joke that norsu is their "other baby", a true passion. At norsu we pride ourselves on our vision of supplying sustainably sourced materials and only using what we must in our packaging. We wrap our products beautifully in an organic cotton 'norsu’ tote bag, our gift to you and to the environment. Our meticulously selected brands share this vision, therefore our ware is ethically produced with an aim to minimise unnecessary waste. We hope you fall in love with our designs as much as we have and that the norsu experience is one you will not forget.
Introducing the norsuHOME - the renovation journey of a Nordic-inspired practical family home in just five months
The team behind the Melbourne based Scandinavian Interiors store norsu interiors have been keeping themselves busy this year with a full renovation of Co-Founder Nat Wheeler’s original 1920’s Californian Bungalow in just five short months.
Nat, along with fellow Co-Founder Kristy Sadlier seized the chance to renovate when the Wheeler family purchased the Glen Iris property in late 2017 and the duo saw an opportunity to demonstrate their team’s styling prowess in norsu’s undeniably distinctive aesthetic.
Committed to designing and executing a superior look and feel at an affordable level (think flat pack kaboodle Kitchen cabinetry cleverly used as bedroom wardrobes), norsu partnered with an incredible line up of Australian and International suppliers on the project, including Caesarstone, Dulux, GlobeWest, Godfrey Hirst, Perini Tiles, Smeg and Sussex Taps.
Having thoroughly enjoyed renovating several homes in the past, the decision to capture the journey of this reno was easy states Nat. “We wanted to share the journey with our social media followers and prove that renovating doesn’t have to be an overwhelming experience. Our goal was to show viewers how to apply some creative choices during the renovation process without breaking the bank, while sharing tips on how to confidently select finishes, incorporate colour, create cohesiveness, and of course have some fun along the way.”
Heading into the project, the plan was to conduct a quick ‘cosmetic renovation’ that most home-owners could confidently tackle on their own, however, after realising the true renovation potential of the house and the ability to make a huge impact without major changes to the existing floorplan, the focus quickly shifted. The result is an open plan, Nordic-inspired practical family home that Nat, together with her husband Dan, and children Annabel (7) and Harvey (4) now lovingly call the norsuHOME.
“After the reno was complete, our day jobs kicked into gear, and we had some serious fun with the styling” states Kristy. “We live and breathe interiors, and truly believe you can create something magical by carefully selecting the right furniture, art and soft furnishings for your home. For us, it’s all about the feeling you get when you walk in that front door. By focusing on the right pieces, tones, placement and layering, you have the ability to create cosiness, joy and warmth which allows guests to instantly connect emotionally with the space.”
This project has been the perfect platform for the norsu team to officially launch their dedicated styling services arm, led by in-house qualified interior designer Lauren Bartlett-Bragg. “If you’re drawn to the norsuHOME and would like assistance recreating this look and feel within your own home, we offer a range of services to suit any budget ” says Lauren.
Capturing the entire process on video through an informative, fun and relatable 11 part episode series, the duo share practical reno and styling tips, along with focusing on the various elements to consider when renovating, such as painting, flooring, tiling and lighting. Each episode is supported by detailed commentary from Nat on her personal experiences, learnings, and guidance, along with tips and tricks from their expert suppliers.
The entire series is now available to view at www.norsuhome.com/episodes/ or via their dedicated norsuHOME YouTube Channel.
Using state of the art VR technology, the home has also been captured in a 360 degree format, allowing viewers to virtually walk through the entire home to receive information or shop every item from the comfort of their own sofa.
